A Sinn Fein Printing and Publishing Company Debenture Share Certificate
A Debenture Share Certificate for £1, no.1299 out of an issue of 8,000, carrying interest at 4% per annum, issued by the Sinn Fein Printing and Publishing Company, Limited, black printing with red impressed duty stamp, dated 8th September 1909, and signed by N.I. MacCuigaill and Thomas Kelly as Directors, and Seojan Ceallagh as Secretary, overall discolouration but otherwise very fine
Founded by Sinn Fein propagandist Arthur Griffith in 1906 the company published a very influential weekly paper in Dublin. The company was not financially successful but was closed for sedition by the British Government in 1914 under the Defence of the Realm Act. The issue of debentures was considered more a donation vehicle rather than for investment.
