Auction: 320 - The Numismatic Collector's Series Sale and the Forest Park Collection
Lot: 1278
Wales. The Black Sheep Company of Wales. Pair of 1970 Welsh Railways and Bridges Sets: each with 20, 50 Pence, 1 and 2 Pound notes. Each a different color, portraying a different Welsh Railway on the front, and the Britannia Bridge on the back. Issued by Welsh banker Richard Hugh Williams of Llandudno for his private banking venture. While not official legal tender, the notes he produced in different series between 1969-1972, held similar status to the promissory issues of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Williams went bankrupt in 1978. A single set brought $111 (including BP) in a 2012 Heritage currency sale. Crisp Uncirculated. [8]
