Seleukid Kings of Syria. Seleukos I Nikator (312-281 BC). AR Drachm. Susa, struck ca. 305/4-295 BC. 4.23 gms. Head of a hero r. (intended to be Alexander or Seleukos himself?), wearing a helmet with a cheek and neck flap, covered in panther skin and adorned with the ear and horns of a bull, rev. BA?I?E?(?) ?E?EYKoY, Nike standing r. placing wreath on a trophy before her, 'NI' lower left. Houghton 174.3, ESMS S-21, HGC 9, 34. Minor porosity at edge, bold types. Overall a nice example of this fascinating issue. Good Very Fine.
