Tenth Tontine (France), 2000 livres, Edict of December 1759, #708, First Class, March 10, 1761, for M. Mosti, four pages, officials sign at close, vellum receipt bound in for the the amount put in by Mosti; edge wear, toning, good VF. A tontine is an annuity into which each investor pays and receives an annual dividend; as investors die, their dividends are shared among the survivors, so that they increase over time; this was issued during the reign of Louis XV, whose many mistresses and poor international policy helped hasten the arrival of the French Revolution.
