Royal Lifetime Rente (France), 100 livres, 9%, Edict of January 1782, issued October 30, 1782, four pages, officals sign at close, with vellum receipt bound in for the principal of 1111 livres from Mr Emery, edge wear, VF+. This Rente was from the reign of Louis XVI, who would be toppled by revolution in a few years; it mentions sources of revenue to pay interest, including the infamous "gabelle," a universal tax on salt that required everyone over eight years of age to purchase a minimum amount of salt every week; though Louis XVI did not institute it, he would pay for it, and other abuses of the monarchy, with his head.
