Royal Rente (France), Edict of October 1706, 282 livres, from Francois Legrand, June 7, 1707, four pages, partly manuscript, signed at close by Legrand and seven royal officials, with 1-page vellum receipt for over 5000 livres, minor dampstain at left, VF+. These rentes were royal loans used by the monarchy to raise revenue from wealthy citizens and the populace; this one dates from the reign of the Sun King, Louis XIV, while France was embroiled in the War of the Spanish Succession against the Grand Alliance of England, Prussia, Austria, and the Netherlands.
