1919 (30 Sept.-4 Oct.), the selection of eighteen envelopes flown by the special airmail service incepted to cope with the effects of the national railway strike, all bearing 2/11/2d. frankings (the 2/- being the extra charge to pay the airmail service), routes with London-Glasgow, Glasgow-London, London-Newcastle, Newcastle-London, London-Manchester, London-Birmingham, Birmingham-London (this being the only item of mail carried on the 4th October); mostly good to fine. An attractive and very rare group - very few items of mail being flown on any of the routes which only operated between the 1st and 6th October 1919. Of the flights represented in this lot only as many as 248 items were carried on any one day and, as is included in this lot, one flight carried only one single letter!. Photo for a selection
