Henry VIII, third coinage, Half-sovereign, 6.14g., Tower mint, king with bearded portrait seated facing on throne, holding sceptre, rose below, reads henric 8 and z hibe rex, rev. crowned shield with lion and dragon supporters, hr monogram below, Roman lettering, H with ornamental cross-bar, trefoil/ small double saltire stops, m.m. pellet in annulet (Whitton type II(b), 2/1; c.f. Schneider 613; N.1827; S.2294), graze on king's robe, otherwise sharply struck with a strong and detailed portrait, almost extremely fine, rare thus Estimate £1,250-1,500 provenance:
