William III, Halfcrown, 14.84g., 1697 B, Bristol Mint, first laureate and draped bust facing right, straight breastplate, B below, gvlielmvs. iii.dei.gra., toothed border both sides, rev. inverted die axis, crowned cruciform large shields, only two partial strings to Irish harp, Lion of Nassau at centre, date either side of crown above English shield, .mag. br.fra. et.hib. rex., edge, inscribed in raised letters of upright axis, .+.+.decvs.et.tvtamen..anno.regni.nono.+. (ESC 543; S.3488), well struck but with harp strings apparently omitted, very attractively toned, good extremely fine Estimate £600-800 provenance Purchased Baldwin 1945 for £7.10/-
