William III, Proof Halfcrown, 15.02g., 1697, first laureate and draped bust facing right, straight breastplate, gvlielmvs. iii.dei.gra., toothed border both sides with raised rim, rev. inverted die axis, crowned cruciform large shields, ten strings to Irish harp, Lion of Nassau at centre, date either side of crown above English shield, .mag br.fra et.hib rex., edge, plain (ESC 542 R5; cf.S.3487), die flaws on reverse, with associated weaknesses both sides, small spot by MAG, attractively toned, as struck, extremely rare Estimate £6,000-8,000 provenance
