POSTAL HISTORY England, Scotland and Wales 1867 (22 Dec.) envelope to Surrey, bearing 1864 1d. plate 92, BF, tied by Portsmouth duplex cancellation, the address panel rated "8d" in manuscript with black framed "registered - c/de 23 1867/london n-s" (the "C" standing for "compulsory"), the reverse affixed with printed G.P.O. label explaining why the letter had been compulsorily registered (it had contained money); fine, very rare and extremely attractive.
