George III, Restrike Pattern Penny, 1797, by W J Taylor after Kuchler, struck in bronzed copper, large undraped bust facing right, wreath of 10 leaves and 5 berries, tie ribands at rear with long hair of differing style, faint K.: recut on thinner shoulder, cheek flaw polished away, within broad raised rim with small incuse legend, georgius iii . d : g . rex. rev.inverted die axis, Britannia seated to left on rock amidst waves, no K, olive branch of 10 leaves in right hand, left hand clasps trident with shield, K. raised below shield, ship sailing at left with 5 gunports in relief, flag at stern, all within broad raised rim with date below and small incuse legend, heavy flaw across 9, the whole design showing rust marks, britannia (Peck 1138 R52 ER), toned as struck and extremely rare Estimate £ 300-400 Herman Selig Collection part II, Spink Auction 131, 2nd March 1999, lot 1292
