Flanders, Robert III of Béthune, "The Lion of Flanders" (1305-1322), Sterling, c. 1319-1322, in the style of Robert the Bruce, Aalst, + ROB : COMES : FLAND', crowned bust left, rev. MOnETA ALOSTEn' long cross and trio of pellets in angles, 1.285g [19.83grns], 1h (Site Reference [RA 55]; Mayhew 209; Gaillard 179), some unfortunate extraction scuffs, otherwise broadly struck on a full round planchet, rendering the portrait a trace off-centre, otherwise uniformly toned and struck up for issue, about very fine, and a fascinating imitation of the Bruce prototype!
