Line Engraved: Trial Separations
Private Trials
A small group of trials including an 1844 mechanical separation group of three covers bearing adhesives which appear to have been cut with a mechanical separating device with 1844 (2 Sept.) envelope to London bearing 1841 1d. OF, with eccentric vertical cuts, tied by "325" numeral of Tobermory, redirected to Chelmsford with a further 1d. added, cancelled by "17" numeral with straight-line "Oxford St W.O." alongside and with the appropriate backstamps; also June and July two envelopes from Frenchpark in Ireland to London bearing FJ on first and KE, SE on the second, each showing the similar irregular vertical cuts; and a selection of roulettes stamps (10) and covers (6) displaying a variety of roulette types; condition is a little mixed. One cover is registered with manuscript "6" in red to pay the registration fee, also 'serpentine' rouletted 1d. red-brown plate 156, IC displaying a rather irregular roulette, 1d. plate 165, TH just tied on small piece and showing an irregular roulette on three sides, 1d. unplated, MF cancelled by Sligo "410" numeral. Some dubious in nature and are offered 'as if'; a most interesting collection.
