(x) Austrian Levant & Ottoman Postal Interaction in Albania (1869-1870)
1870 (June 21). Entire letter from Shköder (Scutari) to Venice, franked with Turkey postage due 1869 1pi. (Michel 12Bb), tied by "Iskodra/81" double-circle c.d.s. in blue on dispatch, paying the horse courier service from Scutari to Antivari. "P.D." at top, showing superb "scutarie d'albanie" small thimble c.d.s. in blue. Further franked for the Antivari-Venice route with Austrian Levant 1867 Coarse Printing 5s. red and 10s. blue vertical pair (irregular perforations at right), tied by Antivari c.d.s. in dark brown, backstamped on back. Vertical crease through the Turkish stamp and creased lower right corner barely detract, and the recipient's surname has been crossed out. Fewer than five covers are recorded with this Austrian franking in combination with any Turkish franking. Cert. Ferchenbauer, signed Colla. Michel 3I, 4I.
