(x) Austrian Albania (1797-1806; 1814-1918)
Cattaro
1850 (Jan. 10). An unusual incoming cover from Venice to Rafo Barisic, Bishop and Apostolic Vicar of Herzegovina, at the Monastery of the Most Blessed Virgin in Shèrobregh (Siroki Brijeg, Bosnia and Herzegovina), bearing three different Austrian two-line d.s.: Venice on the front, and Cattaro (Kotor) and Ragusa (Dubrovnik) on the reverse. In Ragusa, the letter was taken in charge by the local Diocese, which governed the ecclesiastical province including Herzegovina, and was then forwarded directly to the final addressee through internal church channels. The handwritten tariff of 10 lire for inland transport within the Austrian Empire, paid on dispatch, covered the required fee to destination.
