Awarded as per A.O. 27 of February 1905.
Michael Deary was born at Ballinascreen, Londonderry. He worked as a labourer for a Mr A. Selfridge of Bishop Street, Londonderry. He attested into the Londonderry Militia on 21 July 1879 and was unable to read or write so signed his papers with the 'X' mark. He transferred to the 9th Brigade N.I. Division Royal Artillery on 1 April 1882, serving until 30 June 1889 when it became the Londonderry Artillery on 1 July 1889. Deary attended every annual training camp between 1884 and 1899. The Regiment changed again to the Londonderry (R.G.A.) Militia on 1 January 1902. He attended the training camps between 1902 and 1905 and was finally discharged on 20 July 1905.
