Ivor Robert Deighton Gibson was born in December 1919, eldest son of Ivor Gibson, Housemaster & Head of Classics at Charterhouse, Godalming. As a result young Gibson was educated there from 1933-37 before being commissioned Sub-Lieutenant into the 'Wavy Navy' in June 1940. During the Second World War he served afloat with Watchman, Vansittart and Tetcott, having been made Lieutenant in December 1942. Retired in April 1946, he worked as an underwriter with Lloyd's from 1951 and settled at Coxhill Manor, Chobham, Surrey. A Member of the Woking Council from 1963, he was its Chairman from 1967-68 and died in December 1996.
