Patrick Conlon was born in November 1915 in Tynemouth, Northumberland and by 1939 was living at Longbenton and was a cost clerk at a local firebrick manufacturers. With the outbreak of the Second World War he firstly became a Cadet in the Green Howards and then joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Qualifying as a Wireless Operator/Air Gunner, he joined No. 105 Squadron who operated on Blenheims. Tasked with an anti-shipping patrol in the North Sea off Scheveningen, Holland, they got wheels up in V5502 GB-U at 1127hrs on 7 July 1941. Unfortunately they were spotted and shot down by a Flak ship and crashed into the sea off Ijmuiden around 1300hrs.

Conlon was buried with Squadron Leader Scott and Sergeant Dewin in The Hague General Cemetery; sold together with official R.A.F. documents confirming the award of these Medals to his widow in February 1986.
