Auction: 26002 - Orders, Decorations and Medals
Lot: 93
Military General Service 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Chateauguay (A. Dufour, Canadn. Militia.), silver riband buckle, very fine
Known to market in December 2002.
Alexis Francois Dufour appears to have been born in October 1788 at Petite-Rivière-St-François. He is confirmed upon the roll for the Medal and clasp of the 1st Battalion, Select Embodied Militia of Lower Canada, residing at Baie-St-Paul, Charlevoix, Quebec. A Jean-Baptiste of the same unit and residence also appears on the roll so it is likely he was present in the action of 26 October 1813 shoulder-to-shoulder with his brother. Having written in for his Pension and Land Grant in 1845-46, he appears to have put in his claim for his Medal and clasp (which was authorised in June 1847) before being noted as having died in August 1847.
