Tom Joseph Mackin was born at Mount Egerton, Ballarat, Victoria and enlisted into the A.I.F. at Lismore New South Wales on 6 April 1915. He embarked from Australia on 24 May 1915 and was admitted to hospital on 3 August 1915. He embarked for France on 12 March 1916 and arrived at Marseilles on 26 April 1916 and was wounded on 3 May 1917 serving with the 2nd Pioneer Battalion. Mackin was discharged on 2 April 1919. He claimed his 1914-15 Star trio.
