Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 1st issue (No. 427 Cr. Sergt. R. Orton. 81st Regt. June 1850.), clip and silver straight-bar suspension, very fine

Reubin Orton was born at Hickley, Leicestershire in 1807 and joined the 81st Regiment of Foot (Loyal North Lancashire) in February 1827. Having served them until November 1851, including some four and a quarter years in Canada, he was discharged with his L.S. & G.C. Medal. In this period, he was injured whilst on a sea voyage and fell down into a hold.

Orton then served on the Permanent Staff of the 2nd Warwickshire Militia from August 1852-August 1872.
