Thomas George Baker originally served with 76 Siege Battery and was struck down with Scarlet Fever and admitted to No.14 Stationary Hospital (Infectious Diseases) at Wimereux on 2 April 1916. He was later awarded his M.I.D. whilst serving with 278 Siege Battery and this was followed by the award of the Military Medal in the same Battery.
