During the recent advance at Hill Top, Canal Bank, Ypres on 31st July 1917, he made a stubborn stand with his Lewis Gun and repulsed a counter attack when his Company looked like being overwhelmed. After remaining in one place for seven hours the position was secured.
William Turner enlisted on 6 June 1916 and was serving with the 17th (Welbeck Rangers) Battalion when he won his Military Medal. He was discharged on 29 January 1919 as a result of wounds received and is entitled to Silver War Badge (B102389).
