Benjamin Dalton was a native of Hull, Yorkshire and enlisted on 3 December 1914, entering the war with the 1st Battalion on 29 December 1915. Transferring to the 13th (4th Hull Pals) Battalion prior to 1917 he received his M.M. after they had been in action on the Ancre and at the Battle of the Scarpe.
They saw additional action during the Capture of Oppy Wood in late June 1917 and Dalton remained with them until he was discharged on 22 March 1919.
