The Second Battle of the Somme 1918 D.C.M. awarded to Serjeant W. Wilson, 58th Battalion, Machine Gun Corps

D.C.M. London Gazette 11 March 1920, the original citation states:
'During the fighting on the Somme he has on several occasions taken charge of a sub-section of machine guns. On one occasion he assumed command of the section, and took them forward to their objective, which was reached and the ground consolidated.'
William Wilson initially served with the 9th Battalion, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, entering the war with them on 25 August 1915. He transferred to the 58th Battalion, Machine Gun Corps and finished the war with this unit, being discharged on 23 February 1919. Notably his M.I.C. confirms the issue of the 1914-15 Star however this was returned for amendment and re-issued in 1921.
