Richard Nevill Jones was born on 4 September 1925 and was commissioned Midshipman in September 1944. Advanced Sub-Lieutenant in September 1945 and Lieutenant in September 1947, he was married in October 1950.
In 1952 he embarked on Glory taking part in anti-communist operations in Malaya and thence to Korea where he completed five Op. On his sixth Op on 18 November 1952, whilst attacking a bridge in North Korea his aircraft, Sea Fury TF971, was hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed near the target, the Report of Proceedings recording:
'I much regret to report the loss of Lieutenant (P) R NEVILL JONES on this day, missing presumed killed. Lieutenant NEVILL JONES was leading his division of Sea Furies in an attack on a railway bridge South of SARIWON when he was hit by A.A. fire. He was seen to climb away after the attack with smoke uring from his engine. The aircraft then stalled and dived into a mud flat in position 380 34' North, 1250 35' East. A large crater was made in the mud, which quickly filled with water, submerging the aircraft.'
