James Albert Wilks was born at Gloucester, England on 14 April 1918. He was a motor driver prior to him attesting into the Union Defence Force on 21 May 1940. He joined the "Q" Services M.T. and served in Egypt 1 October 1942 - 18 February 1944. He then served in Palestine between 19 February 1944 before serving back in Egypt until 4 July 1944. He then served at the P.O.W. Camp Weza (KwaZulu Natal) from 7 October 1944 and was finally discharged on 4 November 1948. His entitlement to the three campaign medals was confirmed on 13 March 1947 and these were sent to him in 1952. Sold with photocopied service papers.

Gerald John Wevell was born in England on 7 July 1902, and was a technical assistant. He served as a Cadet with the E.O.T.U. between 1 February 1940 - 30 April 1940 and became O.C. with the Anti-Gas Lab. He was promoted to W/S Major on 1 March 1941. Wevell was posted to the United Kingdom on 7 December 1942 as Liaison Officer on the Staff of the Union High Commissioner in London and returned to South Africa on 10 June 1943, the same say he attested to the S.A.E.C. on 10 June 1943. He was discharged on 10 January 1944 and assumed a civil appointment with the Director General of Supplies. His medal entitlement is confirmed and they were despatched to him on 5 December 1956. NOTE: The Defence Medal was issued by the British authorities (confirmed on service papers) hence it being issued unnamed.
