Reginald John Kerridge was born on the 22 March 1920 in Southend-on-Sea to Tom Kerridge, a cab driver, and Sarah Helen Kerridge, nee Jones.

Kerridge enlisted with the Green Howards on 23 January 1939 and served with the 1st Battalion in the Second World War. When he was Sergeant of B Company, Kerridge took a patrol across the Sangro on 8 December 1943 and later took command of the platoon at Anzio on 25 April 1944. Here, he fought off two enemy attacks, for which he was mentioned in dispatches. He then was sent to Palestine for retraining, reinforcements and re-equipping in June 1944. It was likely Kerridge was poached by Brigadier Arnold Shaw who was commanding the Middle East Training and Battle School in Palestine. On 11 January 1945, he was mentioned in dispatches for gallant and distinguished services in Italy.

After the Second World War, on 9 January 1946, Kerridge married Sarah Katalan, a Private in the Auxiliary Territorial Service in the District Commissioner's Offices in Jaffa.

After some years, Kerridge later joined the Reserves on 19 August 1963 and on 27 March 1975, retired from service completely. Just under a year later, Kerridge died at Heathrow Airport on 13 January 1976 from a coronary atheroma, aged 55.
