M.I.D. London Gazette 4 April 1946.

Bronze Star London Gazette 19 November 1948, the original recommendation states:

'Captain James Thomas, British Army, performed meritorious service in Europe from June to December 1944. Attached as Assistant British Administrative Officer to Headquarters 1 European Civil Affairs Regiment, he organized the personnel records and reports of British officers to insure adequate administrative protection for the officers involved. Through his exceptional initiative and sound judgement, Captain Thomas greatly aided in the management of administrative matters concerning Civil Affairs personnel.'

James Thomas was serving as a Staff Sergeant with the Royal Army Service Corps when he was commissioned Lieutenant (Quartermaster) on 10 July 1940. He served as a war substantive Major during the Second World War however after the conflict ended was advanced to the rank of Captain (Quartermaster) on 1 November 1947; sold together with a portrait photograph, Officer's Relief Book, M.I.D. certificate and an Education Certificate dated 1935, the last seriously torn.
