A Second World War casualty group of four awarded to Pilot Officer B. G. Knoesen, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, a member of 97 (Pathfinder) Squadron who was killed on 30 July 1943 as a result of being shot down by a German night fighter

Benjamin Gabriel Knoesen was born in Southern Rhodesia in 1922 and was serving as a Mid-Upper Gunner on Lancaster EE172 OF-0 which was on a raid to Hamburg on the night of 29/30 July 1943. The Lancaster was shot down by a night fighter and the whole crew were killed and are buried in the Becklingen War Cemetery, Germany.

Sold together with his Southern Rhodesian condolence slip, and box for his Second World War Medals this with contents written on lid (no postage label remaining).
