A well-documented group of three awarded to Private R. Tilley, 1/5th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, who was killed in action on 18 July 1916

Richard Tilley was born at Stockton, Durham in 1892, the son of Samuel and Mary Tilley and enlisted in Birmingham. He was married in January 1916 and entered the war not long afterwards, being present with the 1/5th Battalion on the Somme in July 1916.

Tilley was killed in action on 18 July when the Battalion was positioned around Albert. He was buried at Pozieres British Cemetery, Ovillers-La Boisselle; sold together with copied research as well as an archive of original material comprising:

i)
Two original photographs of a young man, one with the recipient's name written in ink on the reverse.

ii)
Illuminated Scroll of Honour and its named and addressed packaging tube.

iii)
Medal forwarding slip and Commonwealth War Graves letter.

iv)
Signed Condolence Slip.

v)
A handkerchief embroidered with the flags of the Allied Powers.
