A Great War group of three to Private J. S. Sellers, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment, who was killed in action on 23 September 1916

John S. Sellers was born and enlisted at Nottingham on 15 October 1913. He was absent without leave from 22 November 1914 - 15 December 1914 and received 42 days detention having been apprehended by the Civil Police in North Shields. With a further 14 days from 23 March 1915 and another 28 days for a further absence from 2 July 1915. Sellers was posted to the 9th Battalion and joined the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on 13 September 1915 serving firstly in the Balkans. He completed his time there on 27 June 1916 and joined the B.E.F. on 28 June 1916. Sellers was appointed unpaid Lance Corporal in the field on 16 September 1916 and was killed in action on 23 September 1916 whilst serving with the 9th Battalion and is buried in the Ovillers Military Cemetery.
