Walter Webb was born circa 1881. He joined The Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment circa October 1899 and served in South Africa from February 1900-March 1902, serving with the 3rd Battalion. With the outbreak of the Great War, he re-enlisted at Guildford in November 1914 and served in France with the 6th Battalion, being discharged in March 1919 with a Silver War Badge Para 392 (XVIa).
