Henry James Pearce was born at Stanton, Devizes, Wiltshire in 1877, attesting at London on 10 January 1899 he was posted to 'T' Battery on 1 February. He was posted with them to South Africa on 21 December where the unit served under General French in the Relief of Kimberley. The unit was to see further action at Belfast, Pearce was transferred to 'G' Battery towards the end of the war on 20 July 1902. Returning to Britain he was further advanced Bombardier on 3 November 1905 and Corporal on 20 March 1907. Discharged on 8 June 1907 he went on to work for Chelmsford Prison, earning his Imperial Service Medal there (London Gazette 29 September 1933, refers); sold together with copied research.
