Winifred Mason enrolled with the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry in January 1913 and upon the outbreak of war undertook work with Belgian Refugees at Wimbledon in August. Joining the Auxiliary Hospital at 24 Park Street, West London in October 1914 she was not there for long before returning to work with Belgian Refugees. Posted to the Belgian Hostel at Cathcart Road, London from February - August 1915 she was later to find herself honoured for her work with the people of Belgium.
Joining Weir Hospital, Ballam on 1 August 14 Mason remained there until September 1915 when she entered the war in France on 15 September 1915. Posted initially to the Rest Station Abbeville until September 1916, after which she undertook work as a driver effective from April 1917 - June 1918. Posted finally to the County Office, 24 Eaton Square from June 1918 she was still there when she was discharged in October 1918. Her work with the Belgian refugees saw her rewarded with the Medal de La Reine Elisabeth in 1919.
Mason returned to service upon the outbreak of the Second World War, being appointed Junior Commander on 30 May 1941. She served for some time being discharged on 17 April 1943 while living at 41 Pattison Road, London and later earning the O.B.E. for her efforts; sold together with copied research.
Further entitled to the O.B.E.; 1914-15 Star; British War and Victory Medals along with the Defence and War Medals 1939-45.
