The Pearl-class cruiser Wallaroo was built as HMS Persian by Armstrong Mitchell but changed her name on 2 April 1890 when she was posted to the Auxiliary Flotilla on the Australia Station. She served in Australia for the rest of her active career, seeing action only once during the Boxer Rebellion. Retired in 1906 she became a guard ship at Chatham.
