(x) Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Transvaal (2849 Pte W. E. Geldard, Yorkshire Regt), very fine
William Edward Geldard was born in 1871 in York and worked as a confectioner before enlisting into the 3rd Battalion, Princess of Wales's Own Yorkshire Regiment on the 20 March 1889. He served for two and a half years in India between 1890-1892 before then transferring to Upper Burma, where he served for three years between October 1892 - January 1896. While out in Burma, Geldard received forfeited pay in October 1893, which was rectified six months later in April 1894. Then followed just over one year in the East Indies between January 1896 -January 1897 before he returned home until November 1899. He then transferred to the Army Reserve on 3 February 1899. Geldard's last posting was to South Africa, when at some time prior, he had transferred to the 1st Battalion. He served there between November 1899 and February 1902 after which he came home. He once again received forfeited pay on 2 January 1900. He discharged from service on 19 March 1902 having served a total of 13 years and was further entitled to the King's South Africa Medal with both clasps.
