India General Service 1895-1908, 2 clasps, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Tirah 1897-98 (4573 Pte. W. Taylor 2nd Bn Derby: Regt), suspension a little slack, pawnbroker's mark to obverse 6 o'clock, very fine

William Taylor was born at St. Mary's, Nottingham in 1876 and attested at Derby on 10 February 1894. He was arrested by the Civil Power for 'Riotous Conduct' not long after enlisting and was released on 1 January 1896. Perhaps to keep him out of trouble Taylor was posted to the 2nd Battalion in India on 23 December that same year.

There he saw service on the Tirah expedition, later being posted to Malta on 15 October 1899, likely to replace garrison troops who had been sent to South Africa. He was to see service there himself, entering the war there on 1 March 1902, not long before its conclusion. Returning to Britain, Taylor was posted to the Army Reserve on 12 November 1902 and finally discharged on 9 February 1910; sold together with copied research.

Further entitled to the Queen's South Africa Medal with 2 clasps.
