Pair: Major W. A. Innes, 4th (Roxburgh & Selkirk Rifle Volunteers) Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers, who commanded the Guard of Honour for King George V on his 1910 visit to Hawick and later saw service during the Great War

William A. Innes was a native of Roxburghshire, Scotland, the son of Alexander and Agnes Innes of Roxburghshire and the brother of Alison Innes who later married the famous watercolour artist, Frank Wood. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in January 1892 and advanced Captain on 17 May 1899, while the Battalion did serve in South Africa at this time Innes has not been located upon the roll.

During the Great War Innes was seconded for duty with No. 12 (Scottish) Provisional Battalion on 12 August 1915. He was later transferred to the King's Own Scottish Borderers on 16 May 1916 and served with them for the rest of the conflict, relinquishing his commission retaining the rank of Hon. Major on 12 March 1920.

Innes' MIC has not been located however he was clearly in service during this time and is likely entitled to a British War Medal. He died at Strathyre, Perthshire on 22 December 1950; Sold together with copied research.
