William Swinyard was born in 1874 and was a resident of Dorking, Surrey and was a Carter by trade. He enlisted into the Lancashire Fusiliers on 24 August 1914 and first served overseas on 19 July 1915 as part of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force.
Swinyard transferred to the Royal Air Force on 30 August 1918 and was given the service number 301489. He was discharged from the R.A.F. on 30 April 1920 and died in 1938. He received his Great War Medals in 1923 (1914-15 Star) and 1924 (BWM and Victory Medals).
