Distinguished Service Order, G.V.R., hallmarked for London 1918; 1914-15 Star (WSA.78. E. Barlow. Skr., R.N.R.); British War 1914-20 (W.S.A. 78 E. Barlow. Ch. Skr. R.N.R.); Royal Naval Reserve L.S. & G.C., G.V.R. (104W.S.C. E. Barlow. Ch. Skr. R.N.R.), overall very fine (4)

D.S.C. London Gazette 17 April 1918.

Edwin Barlow was born at Hull on 27 October 1882 and joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 19 September 1912 with the rank of Skipper. Barlow's service papers suggest that he was commanding a vessel named Minho, possibly the Mino, which operated out of Hull throughout the war. After the award of the D.S.C. he was advanced Chief Skipper on 1 July 1917. The Navy Lists suggest that he was stationed with H.M.T. Grenadier at the time, possibly using it as a command ship from which to direct the minesweeping operations. Barlow continued to serve until July 1927; sold together with copied service papers.
