Geoffrey Allsopp was born on 2 June 1929, entered the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in August 1947 and was made 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment in December 1948. Made Lieutenant in December 1950, he served in Egypt from May 1951 and was with the Mortar Machine Gun Platoon in Ismailia July 1952.
Serving at Kingston Barracks, Jamaica 1953, he was made Captain and Adjutant in December 1954. During the summer of 1957, Allsop took up the position of Staff Captain at Force Headquarters, Aden Protectorate Levies. Made Major in the Lancashire Regiment in December 1961, he was thence Major and Paymaster, in the Royal Army Pay Corps. Advanced Lieutenant-Colonel in December 1970, Allsop retired in June 1972.
The Lancashire Regiment was not deployed for the Arabian Peninsula campaign, making the Medal named to his unit rather scarce.
