Alfred Frederick Turner was born in Hamilton, Ontario in Canada circa 1918, the son of Albert and Lillian Turner and one of six children. Young Turner grew up in Hamilton where he attended Ballard School and the Hamilton Technical College. At the time of his enlistment with the Royal Canadian Engineers, he was working in the contracting business alongside his father. He was also married upon his enlistment and lived with his wife at 1265 Main Street in Hamilton with their young daughter Renee.
Two of his brothers also served with the Royal Canadian Engineers in the Second World War and were posted overseas; his brothers were Sapper Cecil R. Turner and Leading Aircraftman Roy Turner. He had been stationed overseas for one year when he was killed in action in Sicily on 6 August 1943, at just 25 years old. This was likely during the Allied fight for the town of Adrano, which they successfully captured from the Germans on the night of 6 August.
Turner is interred at the Agira Canadian War Cemetery in Sicily; sold together with copied newspaper article and CWGC Certificate.
