Provenance:
Norman W Collett December 1999.

George Davies was born in 1913 and enlisted at Shrewsbury on 10 March 1933, seeing home service until September 1935. He was posted to Egypt along with the rest of 2nd Battalion, guarding the Egyptian Border during a period of increased tension with Italy from 17 September 1935. Returning Home the next year they were again posted abroad to Jamaica on 13 January 1939, being there when the war began before being transferred to the Dutch West Indies on 11 May 1940.

Returning to Britain on 24 March 1942 Davies remained there for the rest of the war, his certificate of service notes only entitled to the Defence and War Medals. Discharged on 18 January 1946 he re-attested on 31 January 1949 with the Royal Artillery, being posted to Korea on 29 February 1953. Transferred to Hong Kong on 28 July 1954 he was there for a little less than a year before being posted to Malaya on 6 April 1955. It is unclear whether he had been demoted to Gunner in this time or whether his G.S.M. was incorrectly named.

Returning to Britain on 26 March 1956 he was discharged on 21 March 1958, his leaving testimonial states:

'A reliable, hardworking and conscientious N.C.O. He has a cheerful disposition and is willing to give that little extra effort at work, when called upon to do so. He takes an interest in his dress and is always clean in appearance.'

Sold together with copied research, letters from the Museum of the Shropshire Regiment confirming the recipient's entitlement as above and a small archive of original material comprising two certificates of service, a pension letter and certificates of education.
