Six: Warrant Officer Class II E. A. Baker, Army Physical Training Corps, late Sergeant, 164th Field Regiment, Royal Artillery, who was taken a Prisoner of War at Mersa Matruh in June 1942

1939-1945 Star; Africa Star; War Medal 1939-45; U.N. Korea 1950-54; Africa General Service 1902-56, 1 clasp, Kenya (837086 W.O.Cl.2. E. A. Baker, A.P.T.C.); Army L.S. & G.C., E.II.R., Regular Army (837086 W.O.Cl.2. E. A. Baker. A.P.T.C.), mounted as worn, good very fine and an unusual combination

Edward Amos Baker was born on 25 July 1916, a native of Woolston, Southampton and enlisted into the Royal Artillery on 18 June 1935. By the outbreak of the Second World War, he was a Sergeant and served with 164th Field Regiment, Royal Artillery in the Western Desert, as part of the 10th Indian Division. Under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel R. J. Awdry they found themselves almost wiped out in the action at Mersa Matruh on 29 June 1942, being disbanded after the events (Private Report held in IWM.Docs.13013).

Baker went in the bag and was held at PG52 near Genoa from August 1942-September 1943 and then at Stalag 344, Lamsdorf, from September 1943-February 1945. Afterwards, one might assume that he then came through The Long March westwards before War's end and being repatriated. Afterwards joining the Army Physical Training Corps, he was probably stationed in Japan during the Korean War (U.N. Korea Medal only) and was latterly posted to East Africa during the Mau Mau rebellion.
