David Mowbray Bryce was born on 15 June 1909 and was a baker by trade living at South Queensferry, West Lothian, Scotland. Having enlisted into the Royal Artillery in 1938, he was taken a Prisoner of War on 20 June 1942 in Cyrenaica. He went 'in the bag' at the Battle of Tobruk and having been initially held at Benghazi, was shipped to camps at Capua and Fara Sabina in Italy, being interrogated for information at the latter. With the capitulation of Italy, he escaped and went on the run for 13 days in the mountains with L/Bdr. Aitken and Gnr. Wight, unfortunately being taken by the Germans before they could reach safety. Later held at Stalag XVIII-A at Wolfsburg, Austria, he was returned home at the end of the Second World War; sold together with various Badges and Insignia.
