Bernard Edwin Gowlett was born in Essex, the son of Frank and Gladys Gowlett, he served with the 2nd Battalion which landed at D-Day on Sword Beach. They were in action again at Caen, Bourguebes Ridge, Mont Pincon and Nederrign. After the crossing of the Rhine they fought a minor action at Lingen on 4 April 1945 and there Gowlett was killed in action, he is buried at Rheinburg War Cemetery, Germany; sold together with copied research as well as a Condolence Slip named to 'Pte. B. E. F. Gowlett.' and the medal box of issue named to 'Mrs G Gowlett, 2 Church Cottages, Black Notley, Braintree, Essex'
