Six: Private D. Paterson, 2nd Battalion, Highland Light Infantry, who doubtless saw action during the Battalion's bloody action in The Cauldron during the Battle of Gazala

Daniel McIntosh Paterson served with the 2nd Battalion in Palestine before the outbreak of the war when they were stationed with the 7th Infantry Division. Later the 2nd Battalion was to see action in East Africa at Karen before joining the war in the Desert. Going into action at the Cauldron they were at the sharp end when the 10th Armoured Brigade was overwhelmed. At one stage every Battalion Headquarters in the 74th Division was overwhelmed but many of the soldiers were able to withdraw. Paterson survived the fighting and was awarded his medals on 1 October 1948 while living at 20 Laighcart Side Street, Johnstone, Renfrewshire; sold together with copied research.
