Wilfred George Garrett-Pegge was born on 7 October 1890 and was the eldest child of John William Garrett-Pegge and Elizabeth Knowles Andrews. He was raised in Chesham House (renamed Chesham Bois Manor in 1907) along with his younger brother Robert Owen Garrett-Pegge. The house is a notable property in Chesham: the 20-room, neo-gothic mansion was constructed by his father between 1879-80. In 1900, Garrett-Pegge matriculated at Merton College, Oxford, where he was awarded his BA and subsequent MA. In 1904 he was called to the Bar at Inner Temple. In 1909, he was sworn in as a Magistrate at the Easter Quarter Sessions and also became Lord Chancellor to the Commission of the Peace for Buckinghamshire, like his father before him.
Garrett-Pegge joined the war on 29 May 1916 and served as a 2nd Lieutenant before promptly being promoted to Lieutenant. He served in France with the Royal Army Service Corps, the same unit as his younger brother.
In the Interwar period Garrett-Pegge returned to Amersham and became Lord of the Manor of Chesham Bois Manor in 1920 upon the death of his father. He also returned to law and was sworn in as the Vice Chairman of Amersham Bench in 1930. In 1935 he was promoted to Chairman.
During the Second World War Garrett-Pegge worked for the Special Constabulary as an Inspector and was the Sub-Controller for Area 5, which was comprised of Chesham, Amersham and Beaconsfield. He also loaned the house out for charity events in aid of the war effort. Garrett-Pegge lived until the age of 97 and died on 23 December 1970. The house was passed to his nephew, given that Garrett-Pegge died a bachelor with no children of his own.
